The principle medical system of India is known as Ayurveda and is over 5,000 years old. This "Science of Life" is considered the art of living in harmony with nature. In Ayurvedic philosophy, people, their health, and the universe are all thought to be related. It is believed that health problems can result when these relationships are out of balance. The goal of Ayurveda is to integrate and balance the body, mind, and spirit. This is believed to help prevent illness and promote wellness.
Developed from the ancient text of The Vedas, Ayurveda views the human body as a homunculus of our cosmic Universe, regulated by the balance between three primordial humours, call dosha.
Your dosha is your Ayurveda mind & body type. There are three doshas in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. We each have all three of the doshas in our physiology, just in different proportions, so your dosha is unique and personal; it is like your fingerprint.
• Each dosha is made up of one or two of the five basic elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth.
• Each dosha has a particular relationship to body functions and can be upset for different reasons.
• A person has her own balance of the three doshas, although one dosha usually is prominent. Doshas are constantly being formed and reformed by food, activity, and bodily processes.
• Each dosha is associated with a certain body type, a certain personality type, and a greater chance of certain types of health problems.
• An imbalance in a dosha will produce symptoms that are related to that dosha and are different from symptoms of an imbalance in another dosha. Imbalances may be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle or diet, too much or too little mental and physical exertion, or not being properly protected from the weather, chemicals, or germs.
The following test will give you a good idea of the levels of your doshas. We have to remember that everyone has all three doshas, but in varying degrees. After reading each description, mark 0 to 7 in the space provided. Note that values 2 and 5 are not assigned at all (don't use them).

Your constitution is an energetic force that expresses itself through your own unique genetic make-up. It determines the physical and structural characteristics that define your body and your internal physiological tendencies such as level of your metabolism, strength of your digestive system.
Prakruti defines your natural state and your potential. Inherent ideal balance of the 3 doshas within your body is determined at conception and does not change throughout your lifetime.
We determine Prakruti by our most stable factors such as physical structure, nature of voice and the basic personality. One’s Prakruti does not by definition produce symptoms, only tendencies. Your constitution also affects, but is not the only factor in determining your emotional tendencies and the expression of your personality
Every living creature has all 3 doshas within them. There is an infinite number of combinations and permutations with no two people being exactly the same. It is important to remember that no cell of the body can exist without all 3 doshas.
Healing is the process of returning the Vikruti to the state of Prakruti. The word dosha literally means “that which has a fault”, a system that is quick to change. Ayurveda is the pursuit of balance. To achieve this we must know our own constitution, the nature of the disease and the nature of the remedies. Often your dominant dosha will be the one that becomes imbalanced, but this is not always so. Vata is often affected because of our fast-paced lifestyle, changing jobs, relationships and living location. Our competitive culture also leads to Pitta imbalance. So our Vikruti is our current dosha state or our natural state of imbalance.

Vata Dosha (Air and Ether)
- This is the dynamic "kinetic" principle necessary to mobilize anything from electron to a galaxy. Air is the representative in an abstract sense.
- Force within the body responsible for all motion.
- Light, cold, dry, mobile, subtle and rough.
- Its roots are in the Large Intestine.
- Prevalent in the pelvic cavity, pores of the bones, skin, ears, and the thighs
- Primary symptom is pain and any abnormal excess of motion (i.e. twitching, rapid breathing, rapid heart rate etc.)
- Other symptoms include emaciation, debility, tremors, coldness, constipation, distention, insomnia, disorientation, incoherent speech, dizziness, confusion, depression, hyperactivity and pain.
- Vata individuals are prone to diseases of the neurological system especially motor functions, mostly affecting the lower limbs and are also more pronounced during old age. Some of these diseases are tetany, wasting disorders (muscular atrophy), spasms, hemiplegia, convulsions, headache, insomnia, angina (hridgraha), dysuria, rheumatism (amavatha), osteoporosis (asthisosha), fissures on palm and soles (vipaadika), swelling and stiffness of the thighs (urushthambha), brachial palsy (avabahuka).
- Its main functions in the body is the absorption and circulation of nutrients, and the excretion of waste (the by product of metabolism).
Pitta Dosha (Predominantly Fire with a small amount of Water)
- This is the thermal, explosive force behind the ability to transform everything. Sun is the representative.
- The force within the body responsible for digestion and metabolism, heat, light, slightly oily, unstable and sharp.
- Its roots are in the lower half of the stomach and the small intestine and also the blood, eyes, skin, sweat glands, liver and spleen.
- Primary symptom is fever and any excess heat in the body.
- Other symptoms include yellow coloring, hunger, thirst, burning sensations, difficult sleep, fever, bleeding and excess discharges of sweat or urine.
- Pitta individuals are prone to diseases of the digestive and metabolic systems. The diseases mostly affect the abdomen and the areas between the breast and umbilicus. Pitta disorders are pronounced in middle age and express as intense localized burning sensation, stomatitis, acid regurgitation, jaundice, bleeding disorders, bluish discoloration of the skin.
- Its main function is regulating metabolism and the production of cellular energy.
Kapha Dosha (Water and Earth)
- This is the cohesion that holds everything together with its electro-magnetic and gravitational forces.
- Force behind the structure and stability of the body
- Heavy, cold, moist, static, smooth and soft
- Its roots is in the upper half of the stomach (mucous) and also the chest, head, plasma and in all of the liquids of the body (synovial membranes of the joints)
- Primary symptom is swelling but also weight gain, and excessive mucous production.
- Other symptoms include nausea, lethargy, heaviness of body and mind, white coloring, sallow complexion, chills, congestion, excessive sleeping.
- Kapha individuals are prone to disorders of the respiratory system especially phlegm disorders. The diseases affect the upper parts of the body such as the chest and above. These disorders are more prone during early age as seen during childhood. Disorders such as drowsiness, excessive sleep, obesity, swelling of the neck (galaganda), thick skin eruptions, congestion of the chest with phlegm, polyuira.
- Its main function is the structure of the cell, cell membranes and organelles.

Cleansing The Body
Cleansing the body is done to keep our physical machine in optimum health. We are born into a body with physical limitations that begins aging the day we are brought into this world. We can learn to use the body's own healing mechanisms to trigger change. There are many ways to bring about corporeal awareness and change.
Detoxifying is the process of releasing accumulated toxins and waste products that build up throughout our system. From birth, we are bombarded by toxins, externally from environmental sources. Internally, our organs give off waste products that accumulate in our body. Imbalanced emotions also play a part in polluting our system with excess chemicals such as free radicals, homocysteine and cortisol.
Detoxifying is, in many ways, an easy process. Our body does much of the detoxification process through urination, defecation and perspiration. As our bodies age and our immune systems weaken from illness, poor diet and/or addictive substances, we sometimes need to give our system an extra helping hand. That is why conscious detoxing is great way back to optimum health.
One of the best ways to start your detoxification is with the body's biggest organ, the SKIN. A detox diet strengthens the organs involved in detoxification and
releases stored toxins, expelling them through the organs of elimination: the skin, as well as the intestines, liver, lungs, kidneys, and lymphatic system.
This is one of three processes that should be done 4
times a year. Using the seasons as a guide, allows us to work with
the "flow of nature" and change as our bodies change. Consider a healthy detox or work with the power of an herbal cleanser.
1. Here is a nice Detoxification Bath to get you started:
Detoxification Bath
2 Cups Sea Salt
2 Cups Baking Soda
4 Tbsp. Ginger Powder
Place all ingredients in a hot bath and bathe for 20 Minutes
Drink plenty of water. This bath withdraws impurities from your body
and helps you to feel better. This bath can be done
2 to 3 times in a week or as needed.
2. Psyllium
is a bulk-forming laxative and is high in both fiber and
mucilage. Psyllium seeds contain 10-30% mucilage. The laxative properties of psyllium are due to the swelling of the husk when it comes in contact with water. This forms a gelatinous mass and keeps the feces hydrated and soft. The resulting bulk stimulates a reflex contraction of the walls of the bowel, followed by emptying.
3. Physical exercise: is what your body instinctively wants to do especially under stress: fight or flight, and it works. It burns off some of the stress chemicals which tension produces. Therefore, a tired muscle is a relaxed muscle. Relaxed muscles contribute to a relaxed mind.
TIPS FOR DETOXING
1. Eating a diet that focuses on fresh vegetables and fruits.
2. Eat whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.
3. Adopt a healthy lifestyle including regular exercise.
4. Avoiding drugs and alcohol.
5. Taking a high potency multiple vitamin and mineral supplement.
6. Take nutritional/herbal supplements to protect and enhance liver function.
7. Go on a three day fast, four times per year.
8. Fasting at the change of the seasons is a good rule to remember.
9. Take care of your skin and know your skin type.

Cleansing The Mind
Cleansing the mind is done to bring awareness to all that causes us limitations in thinking. The overthinking that is rooted in fear and deters us from living wholeheartedly, can be one of our biggest detriments. We can learn to free our minds from this imprisonment and create a focused and well balanced mind set.
The need to understand the power and place of our mind continues to intrigue all those who wish to grow. Mind Medicine is simply listening to how your heart speaks to your mind. This language is called intuition. Children are extremely intuitive and utilize this ability daily. As we grow older, it seems that we tend not to trust these feelings, images or concepts from our mind's eye. They almost seem odd, irrational or just something that is hard to believe. The art of tapping into the supersensory powers of your subconscious, is just another way of "paying attention"!
1. Start by maintaining an open-minded. Accept that there are somethings you may not understand. Allow yourself to "see" there are two sides to every story.
2. Have a non-judgmental attitude. Judgement is a destructive emotion. When left unchecked, unresolved or not under control, judgements can wash away the foundation of any insight and clarity.
3. Experience being experimental. Practice the art of listening to your hunches. Act upon them. If they are right, look at what seemed to be the reason behind it. Allow mistakes to happen.
4. Allow yourself to be playful. When we tap into our child-like curiosity we are less conscious what others think and are more in tandem with our free mind.
5. Give change an open pathway. Follow along with change as if you are playing a game. Follow along the pathway of change with curiosity, intrigue and the desire to learn it's lesson. Leave your resistance behind.
6. Invite daydreaming. Dream-like states are associated with the subconscious. Allow yourself to look into this window. Write down the images and symbols you recall.
7. Embrace the love of all places, people and things . Remind yourself that we live in each other's hearts and when we look at ourselves we see each other. When we love each other we love ourselves more.
8. Forgiving is the ultimate in acceptance of yourself and others. It revels a path to our true selves. Let there be no bumps in the road to "seeing".
9. Make positive affirmations or suggestions to yourself. This can clear the mind and open up your "inner dialogue".
10. Learn to understand an intuitive impulse . Your intuition can be sparked at any time. When it occurs, make note of the way it happens. What may have triggered it? Is there a physical action associated with it?
Tuning in to any energy is the ability to quiet the mind, allowing your inner self, or intuition, to perceive truth. By practicing this art, we develop a sensitivity toward inner information and the ability to condition our mind to listen on a much more subtle level. This developing can give us the ability to sense energy and actually
perceive on an even more subconscious plane.
Techniques are vast and varied, all of which, can be used in calming and clearing the mind, therefore, achieving clearer perception. Include some of the following:
1. Candle Therapy: can be used to unite the powers of mind, body, and spirit. The candle's flame has always been a metaphor for the soul! It possesses a tranquil and almost hypnotic atmosphere to those who allow its power to take them to a very special place.
2. Dream Therapy: Some of mankind's greatest creations, ideas and inventions have all been attributed to the attempts of interpreting and understanding dreams. Visions of symbols, words, objects and people whom appear during sleep cycles can give us many messages.
4. Meditation: is a time-honored technique that can take you into infinite dimensions of consciousness. It is a simple effort that becomes effortless as we do it more and more. One major principle to meditation is the ability to completely quiet your mind.
5. Metaphysics: refers to the branch of philosophy that attempts to understand the fundamental nature of all reality, whether visible or invisible. "Beyond the physical". Therefore, a Metaphysician is one who seeks to discover what underlies everything.
6. Music Therapy: is a magical medium and a very powerful tool. Music can delight all the senses and inspire every fiber of our being. Music has the power to soothe and relax, bring us comfort and embracing joy! Music subtly bypasses the intellectual stimulus in the brain and moves directly to our subconscious.
7. Prayer: is the intention or affirmation through a conversation with the Divine. It is dialogue to a Universal power. Tuning into the Divine is really the ability to listen to our higher self. Prayer is bringing awareness to any situation before us.
8. Qi Qong: cultivates a sense of peace through stillness and movement. QiQong is one of the four pillars of traditional Chinese medicine. Qigong is the most self initiating. QiQong is the mother of Chinese self healing and awareness.
9. Visualization: The power of visualization and guided imagery is one of our most powerful gifts! A healing tool we all have with in us - the "power of the mind!"
10. Yoga Therapy: and practicing yoga is associated with establishing harmony, equanimity, balance. Yoga is not mind over body. It is harmony between them. In yoga, the mind is used to perceive (diagnose) and guide (heal) the body.

We understand the mind/body relationship to be inspired by alignment with one's Highest Spiritual Principle and by that awareness we can choose Truth.
Spiritual health is often considered a condition marked by a diminished sense of fear and the daily experience of unconditional love, joy, gratitude, and a personal relationship with your God (1.) (or an awareness of an inner source of infinite power and compassion.)
Religion can play a part in guiding us to the path of Spirituality. BUT, religion is simply a bridge to Spirituality. There are many religions, but only one spiritual truth. This spiritual truth is the journey home to your Self; and the understanding of your emotional courage, truth, and honesty. What is important in life are the good works of love that we do for others.
Spirituality means shining a light into the darkest corners of our world and developing our capacity for compassion for those who are suffering and working for justice for all. (2.)
Surrendering to our higher powers so that your Spirit can orchestrate the infinite correlation of details that are necessary for the manifestation of your desires. (3.) These are the benefits you'll receive when you surrender to a higher power.
Spirituality can be found anywhere. You can experience it in a church or temple, in the revel of nature, in a yoga, dance or exercise class, in the darkest, most unlikely place. Spirituality is a state of mind. It is an experience that brings you closer to the realization of life's truths. It can be found when facing fear, enjoying simplicity or contemplation.
Remember, spiritual lessons are encrusted in our daily life experiences as jewels. They are made available to everyone who wishes to pay attention and listen.
Cosmic Cleansing Meditation
Cosmic cleansing has to do with consciousness and being aware. Without being in tune with these feelings, you cannot accept that we are really apart of the Universal cosmic energies that pulse in and out daily.
Maintaining your calm inner awareness, balance & clarity in the midst of any situation is the cleansing process done here. A gradual shift to a higher level of consciousness... centered in the peace, joy & freedom of your Spirit. Increased insight & clarity... seeing things truly, as they are.
The following meditation is said to be the meditation taught by Buddha about 2500 years ago. The primary focus is your breathing. However, the primary goal is maintaining a calm, non-judging awareness, allowing thoughts, feelings, and sensations to come and go without getting enmeshed in them. This calm, accepting, spacious awareness is your Core Self... your Essence.
Sit comfortably, with your eyes closed, your spine reasonably straight. Add your crystals for a cosmic cleansing net. Let your attention rest on your breathing. When thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, or external sounds arise, simply acknowledge and accept them, allowing them to pass through without judging or getting involved with them. When you notice your attention has gotten engaged in thoughts, emotions, or sensations, bring it back to your breathing and continue.
Energy Medicine is based on the belief that the human body is composed of energy fields. When the energy is properly distributed and circulating freely, the body is healthy. By eating well, living in a healthy manner that works for YOU and working in a clutter free environment, these are essential for living in balance.
Greater self control and self balance, awareness, inner peace and
connective energy to the source of truth are all important in the path to attunement.
Cleansing Energetically is often done through our Chakra system and the energy field that surrounds us, our Aura. These energy forces deal with overall sense of self, our ego, emotions and our self-power. As our Aura is our first line of defense, our Chakra system feels the effects from the inside outward.
Energetic Cleansing is related to the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. As such, it clears our psychic faculties and our understanding on many levels. Space clearing can be done on a physical level by decluttering your surroundings (see decluttering your space ). It can also be done on a metaphysical level with such tools as herbs, salts, crystals, incense, oils and yes, intention.
Cleansing with sea salt is a safe and effective way to clear any space of negative energy. Sea salt is obtained by evaporating seawater. Energy in itself, is the vital source, which radiates from everything and everyone around us. When we are ill, emotionally upset, angered or imbalanced, our moods and of course, our energy is altered. Coming in contact with energy that is negative can often be sensed, even felt. The result is often a feeling of uneasiness, confusion or an
opposed feeling to our current state of mind. Cleansing with sea salt or rock salt is preferred over iodized, processed table salt.
Cleansing a room with salt can be done by placing salt in small bowls and placing them in the 4 corners for 24 hours. Take two teaspoons of sea salt and dissolve it into some warm water. Pour it into a mister or spray bottle and spray it wherever you need cleansing.
Adding herbs or essential oils to sea salt can give an added bonus to cleansing. Herbs such as lavender, sandalwood, tea tree, thyme, and rosemary are all good compliments. When using herbs, place them in the salt and shake the salt in a closed container. This bruises the herbs and allows its essential oils to incorporate into the salt matrix. When using essential oils, add a few drops to salt and then stir or shake the salt in order to mix them well.
Misting yourself for an overall clearing can do cleansing of negative vibes. Draw a bath. As the hot water is filling the tube, add two or more tablespoons of sea salt to the running water and stir it so it dissolves in the tube. Relax in your bath for 15-20 minutes.
Crystals Used In Ayurveda
The mere fact that crystals are placed in an environment suggests to the subconscious mind that healing, on some subliminal level, has already begun. When crystals are placed in a room, they will automatically charge that area with energy.
They will also absorb and ionize that energy in the area, which is negative. The clearing, focusing, radiating beauty aspects of a crystal, work regardless if someone is aware of these traits or not. These are the amazing elements of a crystal's power. To disperse this energy outward is one of its true gifts. It is even more astonishing when we are aware of it!
Choosing a place for your crystals can be done by using your instincts, placing them in your meditation room, alter or sacred space, or placing them in a room that you can benefit from their metaphysical properties.
Cleansing your crystals can be done by placing them into a bowl of luke warm water. For some crystals you can add a teaspoon of sea salt. Make sure the salt is dissolved, then place your crystals in the water for twenty four hours. For other crystals you can add flower petals to the water. Herbs for Cleansing and Clearing
Traditionally, herbs have been used for cleansing for centuries.
These herbs can be utilized when dry, for creating a sense of

Sweet Grass
Sweet Grass has the most sacred usage's of all the purification

substances, sage is part of a mixture used in the sacred smoking of
the pipe. There are may varieties of sage. However, in many places,
the natural supply of sage is dwindling. This is due, in part, to

the use of sage burning.
In sweat lodge ceremonies, sage is used to sit on and represents part

limited to lodges, drum circles, healing and doctoring.
Cedar & Juniper
There are several different types of these sacred herbs. They are
found all over this great land. To some tribes, Cedar is considered
the "tree of life" because it withstands the four elements year
round no matter how harsh the seasons are. These herbs are used
extensively in all sacred ceremonies, healing, and doctoring methods.
It makes an excellent tea for the purpose of flushing out the system.
